Hi Jeanne, I believe Brother cards can be used on Babylock. If you are interested in downloading designs and writing them to cards yourself, you might look at the Amazing Box.

Can you provide more info on the cards and the box? I am super new and am unfamiliar with terminology.

Hi, Michelle. You could check with Babylock to see if they have an official card and box. However, it's usually cheaper to buy another brand. We highly recommend the Ultimate Box from Vikant for the Babylock Espree. You can buy it from www.vikant-emb.com. We used to sell the Ultimate Box, so if you have questions, feel free to ask. For your machine, we would recommend the Ultimate Box Basic (or Plus) with a Type I card.

Once you get your box, you will install the included software. Then, connect the box to your computer, put the card in the box's slot, and then use the software to transfer files from your computer to the card, which you then take to your machine to use.

Thanks for writing. $100 is a pretty tempting price and I might be tempted jump at it if it were me; however, one thing to keep in mind is that with machine embroidery, most machines have a maximum embroiderable area per design, even if they have larger hoops available for stitching multiple designs in. With regard to the Babylock Espree, one thing I see is that it has about a 3.94" x 3.94" area for embroidery. That is pretty much the smallest sewing area available and many embroidery enthusiasts will advise you to buy as big an embroidery area as you can afford. With 3.94" x 3.94" area, you are limited to designs of that size (or smaller) unless you split larger designs and stitch the design in pieces, which takes another level of education and software. If you know right off the bat that you want to stitch jacket-back sized designs, you'll probably want to look for a larger embroidery area.

Consider this and then consider how you are going to learn to use the machine. If in person or online classes or tutorials aren't available to you, that would also be another important consideration. I hope this gives you some direction and helpful information.

Hi, Jeanne. If it's a simple case of bunching, cleaning the area and being sure that the hoop and the bobbin are correctly being used will probably solve the problem for you. Otherwise, if it really is a belt problem, please see the video my coworker, Kirsten, provided.

I suggest experimenting on a variety of fabrics, to give you a feel for how each embroiders differently. You will also need some stabilizers. Start with some medium weigh tear away and some medium weight cutaway. Many people embroider on flannel, quilting cotton, tee shirt knits, denim, and other items. Soon, you will too! Embroidering the built-in patterns is a great place to start.

Hi, Ethel. Thanks for the questions. Regarding designs, you would need one of two options:

1) You can use pre-manufactured cards made by Brother.
2) If you want more flexibility and want to buy stock designs from sites like Embroidery.com, you would need a reader/writer box so you can take the designs from a computer and write them onto a memory card. If you don't have a box, I can recommend the Ultimate Box Basic or Plus, along with at Type I Ultimate Card (available for purchase here at Embroidery.com). Once you have your reader/writer box, be aware that you will need designs in .PES format that are 4"x4" or smaller.

Regarding your question about a manual: Espree manuals are no longer being printed, so the only way to get one would be to buy a used copy from a website like Ebay.com.
