I believe it is possible to transfer your own designs to the Deco 600. You'll probably need an embroidery card and a card reader/writer in order to do this. I suggest contacting Vikant corporation for which of their Ultimate Box & Card products would work for you: https://vikant-emb.com/

That's definitely a problem! Are they the hoops that came with the machine, or a different sort?
If they came with the machine, then my next thought is that maybe they are too tight, and it is the inner hoop that pops out. Is that what's happening?

Hi, Ansley. Yes, you would need a converter box system such as the Ultimate Box with Card to use downloadable designs and fonts on your machine. The box will read any design in your machine's format (PES) and maximum sewing area (4 15/16" h x 4 15/16" w). For your machine, we would recommend the Ultimate Box Plus or II Basic with a Type I Ulimate Card. We sell both those boxes but no longer have any Type I cards. Good Day Heather, I have 2 Deco 650 Embroidery Machines still in very good working order. I still have the card writer module and the memory cards. My problem is that I do not have the PE4 Design with Layout and Editing anymore. Is there any other options to be able to use that system again. Cn you recommend an alternative software?

You're right that most embroidery machines don't have a foot pedal. I have seen an embroidery machine that had a foot pedal; it was the Bernina Artista 180; and it was a combination embroidery/sewing machine. The pedal was for the sewing configuration. In embroidery configuration it wasn't used. It's my understanding that the Deco 650 is an embroidery-only machine.

Hi, Kay. As far as I can find, free motion quilting is not an option on the Deco 650, but you could check with Bernina if you want to be sure on that. I've found a bunch of videos online picturing free motion quilting on Bernina machines, but none of the machines resemble the Deco 650.

Needle breaks on my experience usually occur when the thread is not flowing freely. If thread is getting caught on the spool for instance, often the thread is not what breaks, rather it is the needle. Athread stand can often alleviate the problem, depending on the style of spool.

Hi, Gena. Thanks for your questions. The Ultimate Box Basic and Plus are basically the same except the Plus box has these extra features:

- Automatically resize the design with stitches re-calculated to fit the hoop on your embroidery machine.

- Rotate and Mirror designs.

- Convert embroidery designs from one format into another to write to the card or save in different formats on your computer.

The Ultimate Cards differ in which machines they are compatible with. For the Bernina® Deco 650, we recommend a Type I Ultimate Card.

I'll ask one of my coworkers to give you some suggestions on your breaking needles.

Hi, Stephanie. This machine does not take floppies or USB Sticks. It takes memory cards, so you could purchase ready made cards or invest in a transfer box such as the Ultimate Box (see linked products on this page).

Excellent question! Whether you need software at this point depends on whether you have your son's logo in an embroidery format, such as .pes. If you have that on a memory card for the machine, you don't need anything further as far as software is concerned. If you don't have that, then you'll need to either get the logo in .pes and then write the file to a card for the machine, or you will need to create the design yourself. If creating the logo for embroidery yourself, you will probably need software. It is possible that the machine has the lettering and shapes that you need on-board, but it's not likely.

Hi Kathryn, I don't have much experience with free motion embroidery. I think the hoop bar that you see in the middle of the throat plate would get in your way. This particular machine is not a sewing/embroidery machine. I suggest looking for a Bernina Artista or some model that is combination sewing/embroidery, or even a quilting machine. They tend to have more room in the throat, and can have the embroidery arm removed so that you can use all of the space.

1) If you want to download designs from the internet from sites like ours, you will need to purchase a transfer box. Embroidery.com carries the Ultimate Box. For your machine, I would recommend the Ultimate Box Basic or Plus with a Type 1 Ultimate Card.

2) If you just want to buy pre-loaded cards, you'll want to check out sites that offer those, such as AllBrands.com or Ebay.

Sara, Heather is correct that this machine will only stitch up to 4.84" square at a time. However, a larger hoop will allow you to stitch more of those small designs per hoop. If you are at all interested in using software to expand your stitching area, rather than getting a larger hoop, I would suggest looking into Embrilliance Enthusiast's design splitting tools. Basically, you would get a large hoop and a large design and then use the software to split it into pieces that you could use, first stitching one piece, then the next, until the design is complete

Hi, Sara. I'm sorry but my understanding is that the 4.84"" x 4.84"" sewing area is your maximum, regardless of your hoop size. If you want to embroider larger designs, you would probably need to invest in a new machine. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
