Is there a way to update The software for this

Please Login to comment on this post.

Kirsten S.

Hi Lynne, do you mean the software on the computer, or do you mean the software that is on the machine. PE Design can be updated on your computer by buying the newer version from Brother. But I don't believe they're offering any updates for the machine itself any more. They do still have a web page telling how to do it though I am not sure how up to date it is:

Hi Theresa, Your best bet on memory cards is to find them second hand. Ebay and Etsy both have had them listed in the past. Your other option is to buy a blank card and a writer box. This would enable you to download designs from wherever you would like to buy or find free ones, and then write them to the card for your machine. My recommendation is the Vikant Ultimate Box and the associated card for your machine. http://vikant-emb.com/products

Hi, can you explain more about how I could update this machine?

Hi Lynne,

We're limited on updating some of these older machines. In what way would you like to update it? Most machine service centers can help you with renewing the hoops, the power cables, the cleaning them up, and doing repairs, and so forth. If you are wanting to get a new card writer box for it, so you can use designs from the Internet on it, I suggest getting the Vikant Ultimate Box and its card. Those are the updates that I'm aware of for this machine.

i am extremely new at this so please excuse my ignorance. I bought a used but close to new PE-180D. If I want more current things to embroider do I need to purchace this Vikant Ultimate Box and Card or is there just a card that I can buy and download things onto? Also where do you suggest i go to download?

Hi Kathleen, you will need some kind of writer box if you are going to write to cards for this machine in order to get new designs. The box it was originally sold with it was called PE D basic and it had its own software as well for transferring the files. Those are getting harder to find now, so I suggest the Vikant ultimate box and the card that comes with it. In addition to blank writable cards, you can often find some of the original pre-written design collection cards for sale on second-hand sites like eBay and etsy. These cards come with designs already on them, and they cannot be written over.

One place that I suggest for downloading designs is embroidery.com. We have weekly free designs here: https://www.embroidery.com/Dime-OnHouse-WeeklyFree...

Yes, I think that's what I want because I want to download from internet. I'll look into that. Thank you (and sorry for reposting the same question!)

Hi Mira,

If you scroll down about 5 posts you'll see a post from Mary C. It sounds like she has a lot of memory cards for sale. That was from several years ago, but you could try contacting her with the email provided in case she still has some memory cards. Also, you can try looking on Ebay as well. Best of luck, and have a good day!

Hi Robyn,

Thanks for checking! Our company doesn't sell the memory cards. But I did notice farther down on this page that Mary C is selling the cards. If you wanted to email her at the email she provided then I'm sure you can buy some from her. Also, our company only has a landline so we can't text. Sorry about that. Have a good day!

Hi Doreen. It's a good little machine to start with. I think you and your patrons will enjoy it. You won't need a card to start using the machine. You might need some other accessories, like a hoop, stabilizer, bobbins, thread, and needles. They part numbers and guides to what exactly to buy should be in the manual. The machine comes with a selection of lettering and designs already loaded into its memory, and you can start with stitching those out. If your patrons would like to do things more custom, then software and a card and card writer box would be needed.

For easy access, you might want to get an origial printed manual. I see there's one on ebay: https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=DChcSEwil37PWm...

Or you can download a copy for free, here: https://support.brother.com/g/b/manuallist.aspx?c=...
or herehttps://www.manualslib.com/manual/355776/Brother-P...
(on the last one, use the green download button at the top of the page; the other "view pdf" buttons are ads and will take you to something else).

It comes with lots of designs already loaded. You can still get a card reader for this and download all kinds of designs and upload them to the card. I love this machine and have had it for years.

Hi, Nancy. I'm sorry but I can't give you a personal review of this machine, but I did find some reviews online that might be helpful:

https://www.amazon.com/Brother-PE-180D-Disney-Embroidery-Machine/product-reviews/B0006G2SE4

I hope this helps.

Can you upload designs? Or does this only take cards? I’m new to embroidery

Please Login to comment on this post.

Heather B.

Hi, Laurie. This machine only takes cards. If you own this machine and want to be able to make your own cards with designs downloaded from the internet, you would need to invest in a reader/writer box and blank card such as the Ultimate Box Basic and a Type I Ultimate card, carried here at Embroidery.com.

Do you still have any of these for sale ? I am also interested in hoops, if anyone has any laying around. I work as an Activity Director at an assisted living. I am new to embroidery, but I do work with some ladies that have done this in the past. I would love to be able to let them do this again.

Thank you.

Hi, Hope you can help. I was given this machine. Only used once or twice by my Aunt. I am looking for embroidery cards or diferent patterns I can use. Your site was the most easy to use and very attractive. I'd love to get started embroidering. I can't find anyone here near Poway California that could help or sells accessories for this machine. thank you for your time

Hi, Jean. Thanks for writing and congrats on the new machine.

Your most flexible option for getting designs would be to purchase a transfer box with a re-writable memory card. That way, you can download designs from sites like Embroidery.com on an as needed basis and transfer them to an embroidery card for use on your machine.

I'd recommend the Ultimate Box Basic or Plus for you, along with a Type I Ultimate Card.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.
