How do I use the Hoop Guards?

Hoop Guards keep your hooped area clear for stitching.  When you are embroidering small things like a onesie, or big things like a blaket, you'll often find yourself using clips, pins, and tape to try and keep the un-hooped fabric out of the hooped area.  The Hoop Guard removes that necessity and gives you an easier, cleaner option.

There are two versions of the Hoop Guard: one for standard tubular hoops (the kind that probably came with your machine), and one for magnetic hoops such as the Snap Hoop Monster.  The two video links below take you directly to the relevant portions of a video recorded live in August 2021.

The hooping platform Eileen is using for demonstrating is called Totally Tubular Hooping Station.

Hoop Guard for Standard Tubular Hoops

  1. Place your item to embroider over the bottom hoop.
  2. Hoop Guard has a split flange on the bottom, to work with your slightly rounded hoop.
  3. The top flange should fold away from your hooped ara, the opposite direction of the bottom flange.
  4. Place the two hoop guards opposite each other on the sides of the top hoop.
  5. Push the top hoop down over the two hoop guards, pressing firmlyl to complete the hooping.
  6. If embroidering a small item, such as a onesie, you'll then pull the back and sides of the fabric up to the top side of the hoop.
  7. Don't use hoop guards on the top and bottom -- leave yourself a place to slide the hoop under the embroidery foot. You'll generally only need to use two hoop guards.

Hoop Guard for Snap Hoops

  1. Place your item to embroider over the bottom hoop.
  2. Place the side of the top hoop into the groove of the metal Hoop Guard.
  3. If embroidering a small item, such as a onesie, you'll then pull the back and sides of the fabric up to the top side of the hoop, as needed.
  4. It is only recommended to use one Hoop Guard for Snap Hoops.  It's possible to use two, but just know that that reduced the holding strength of your magnetic hoop.
