I have the reader writer now but I am looking for the right embroidery program to run it. Is it the 3D professional program? I don't know the name of the program or where to find it. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

I'm sorry but I don't know, Barbara. I'd probably recommend checking with Husquvara Viking to see if you can point you in the right direction.

You can get hundreds of patterns. The card reader and card receive it from the computer. Your limitations are the hoop sizes you have for that machine.

So to sum it up. You need the sewing machine, the embroidery arm, the card reader, the d-card, the program to run things and patterns you buy or get free in the format needed.

My sister in law has thus machine.

Hi Sherri,

If you consider selling your machine and wish to upgrade, I would be interested in purchasing it. I have invested so much in D-cards and just recently, my sewing machine unit broke down on me.Thank you.

I have the Platinum 950 E embroidery machine. I purchased it about 10 years ago, and have used it very little. Now I am finding out that the d cards are no longer made or supported. I want to know what I need to be able to get more embroidery designs from online. Do I need a 4 D card reader/writer kit? Is there something else that I need? Other software? I have windows 8 computers. Does the reader/writer work with this operating system? As you can see, I have questions too numerous to mention! I am just concerned that I am stuck with only the designs that I have which came with my machine! Is there any hope for my machine for being able to get more embroidery designs? Any help with my dilemma will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Sherri,

Thank you for your call this morning. The 5D embroidery software looked promising upon some research; however, it appears that it doesn't come with the hardware you need (the transfer box).

http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/en-AU/Software/5D-Embroidery

All the information I'm coming up with looks a little dated, so I'm guessing that Husqvarna/Viking has discontinued offering a D-Card read/write device and your only recourse would be to either invest in a box through a site like Ebay, such as this one...

Ebay Link

Otherwise, to purchase pre-loaded D-cards from sites like Ebay or Etsy or to upgrade to a new machine.

I hope this helps you moving forward.

If anyone else has further information, please feel free to add to the conversation.
