Free Standing lace, as the name implies, is a lace that you don't have to stitch on other fabric.

Instructions:

- For stitching FSL designs you, need will need water-soluble stabilizer. (I've found the ones that look like fabric to be the best, not the transparent/film style stabilizers). For best results, use 2 layers of stabilizer and hoop them very tight.
- Stitch it as regular design. Use 60wt white bobbin thread. If lace is to be seen from both sides, you can use matching colored bobbin thread, but I do not recommend it if you do not have 60wt colored thread for your bobbin case. Be very careful with it because top thread is usually 40wt, not 60wt bobbin thread! You will need adjust your machine's tension if you use the top thread in the bobbin case, as well. Also, be aware that if you use both threads 40wt that your lace will look heavier. Instead of that, you can use invisible thread in the bobbin case. Try it!!! Anyway, avoid touching the stabilizer as not to loosen the stabilizer tension in hoop, as well.
- After stitching, remove embroidery from hoop. Cut exess stabilizer from all around the embroidery. Wash embroidery in warm water. Let dry and iron it (if required).
