Halloween Earrings

Halloween Earrings

Try Halloween Charms for an easy, eye-catching project! In our step-by-step instructions below, we'll show you how to create bewitching Halloween earrings from freestanding embroidery designs.

 1:

Hoop a heavy water-soluble stabilizer such as Aquafilm Badgemaster.

 2:

Embroider two freestanding designs, such as those found in the "Halloween Charms" packs from Cornelia Dobner Creative Design, directly on stabilizer. Note: if using specialty thread, such as glow-in-the-dark, slow your machine down to help prevent thread breaks.

 3:

Cut out the designs.

 4:

Place the designs in a shallow bowl of water and allow the stabilizer to dissolve.

 5:

Gently pull to restore dimension to areas of designs if they have lost their shape, and allow them to dry.

 6:

You may wish to starch the finished designs. To iron spray starch, use a pressing cloth to prevent damage to the threads.

 7:

The designs used in this example included spaces for adding crystals. Hotfix or Swarovski crystals are easily applied. Use 3mm/10ss crystals with these designs.

 8:

Attach each design to an earring post. Earrings can be found in the jewelry or beading section of most craft stores. You may need to spread the lower loop of the earring piece to accomodate the embroidered earring. For this, a pair of needle-nose pliers comes in handy.

 9:

Now go haunt something! The finished earrings are certainly fun for Halloween, even if they aren’t scary in the least.
