Monogrammed Shoe Bag

Monogrammed Shoe Bag

Shoe bags are useful for travel because they keep any street dirt separated from clothing in the traveler's luggage. In this project, we add a circular monogram and scene to personalize an otherwise ordinary shoe bag.

 1:

You will probably need to open the side seam on the shoe bag to facilitate the embroidery. Don’t worry. It’s easy to re-close.

 2:

The "Circle and Trees" design is simply centered on the front of the bag.

 3:

The circle monogram by Embroidery Arts includes three versions of every alphabet letter; one for the right hand side, one for the left, and the largest for the center of the monogram. Traditionally, the last name initial belongs in the center of the monogram, with the first initial on the left and the middle initial on the right. I used embroidery software to merge the three letters and two decorative sidebar designs into one design before I began stitching.

 4:

Centering this monogram within the circle border, I use a light color for the letters to contrast with the dark color of the bag and the trees in the background; this creates emphasis on the monogram, rendering the background design a subtle complement.

 5:

When the embroidery is finished, remove the stabilizer and turn the bag inside out. Re-stitch the seam closed.

 6:

Now, depending on the size of the shoes, and whether it's preferable to keep the shoes separated from each other, you may want to do a second shoe bag to match the first!
