I used Robison_Anton Super Brite Polyster, 40WT, but Rayon would also work well to sew the doily. If you want both sides to show make sure you fill your bobbin with the same thread.
Instructions on how to make a doily with tulle:
I use Badgemaster. You can use any heavy solvy to make the doily, but I have had excellent results with Badgemaster. The main thing is the solvy that you use is heavy. I took 2 pieces of badgemaster and cut so they could be hooped. I then cut two pieces of tulle the same size and sandwiched in between the badgemaster. All 4 are hooped. Solvy on the bottom, tulle in the middle, and solvy on the top. Sew your doily and once you remove it from the hoop CAREFULLY cut around it making sure you DO NOT cut any threads. I soak my doily in hot water after I cut it out. I do not recommend holding it under the running water as you might loosen some threads. After your solvy is dissolved take it out of the water and pat it with a towel. Let it dry flat. How long you let it soak will determine how soft it will be when dried. If it is stiffer than desired put back in warm water for a few minutes.
Enjoy,
