1:
Use printed production sheets to determine placement on the shirt. For the Youth Size XS, fold the shirt in
half to find the middle, and on the wearer's right side, put a placement dot 2" from the middle fold and 2.5"
inches from the bottom of the collar for "Wanda the Whale Appliqué" (UL56). On the wearer's left side, the
placement dot for "Shane the Shark Appliqué" (UL54) goes 2" from the middle fold, and 2.5" from the collar.
2:
Use a printed production sheet cut out to determine the placement of "Debra the Dolphin Appliqué" (UL59) on
the pants. For the Youth size XS, put the placement dot 6" from the bottom cuff, in the center of the left
pantleg.
3:
Prepare applique fabric for the three designs. Full instructions on using applique templates are available in
the technique gallery.
4:
Hoop the shirt front, using a cut away stabilizer underneath.
5:
Pull the shirt fabric up around the hoop from the waistband in order to ensure that the back of the shirt will
not be stitched through.
6:
Hoop the pantleg using a cut away stabilizer. Pull the remainder of the fabric over the hoop. I found the
pantleg cuff opening was too small to pull out of the way on the pants I was embroidering, so I pulled the waistband over the hoop, to keep the
back of the pantleg from being stitched through.
7:
Embroider the designs, adding the applique fabric at the appropriate points. In this example, a grey thread
was used on the animal borders to match the grey pants. The dolphin applique border was done using a blue
thread to match the shirt.
8:
Remove the hoops and cut the stabilizer away.
